We learn first hand from the pedophile interviewed in this book that control of others, specifically children, is the motivation for many pedophiles. Sex isn't the root cause but is a distinct part of process - the endgame. Control of the child is a very much a planned and deliberate action worked out over time with as much pleasure for the pedophile in the process of control as in the final act of sex itself.
